About Joshua
Joshua Kurtz is a global development strategist and the founder of The Ayin Project, a nonprofit organization solving clean water access through research, education, and local partnerships in East Africa. With field-tested insights and a passion for equipping the next generation of leaders, Joshua has spoken to students, faculty, and change-makers across North America and abroad.
Born and raised in Minnesota in a family of dairy farmers, Joshua developed a strong work ethic early on. While attending Bethel University, a pivotal class opened his eyes to global injustices, inspiring him to dedicate his life to tackling some of the world’s most daunting challenges. After graduation, he completed an international internship and later lived in Uganda with his young family while working on community development projects.
With 20 years of experience in international development, missions, and project management, Joshua combines practical expertise with a deep passion for empowering communities to thrive. He holds a Master of Science in Sustainability with an emphasis on Water Management from Lipscomb University.
Through The Ayin Project, Joshua leads initiatives that merge education, research, and innovation, engaging both U.S. students and East African communities in solving global water challenges. His work has impacted thousands of students, educators, and community members locally and abroad.
